Thank you teachers!

The first week of May is our National Teacher Appreciation Week. It is a week when students and parents everywhere shower the teachers in their lives with thanks. Notes, flowers, treats. These things are so appreciated by educators. They fill our hearts with joy and remind us of the impact we have.

As this most unprecedented school year winds down, (yes, I realize we have now used that term for the last three years…) I would like to take a moment and thank my fellow educators.

Thank you for ignoring the political turmoil being caused by those that want nothing more than to make teachers and schools scapegoats for their imagined “culture wars”.

Thank you for making those hundreds of daily decisions based on what you know is good for the kids, regardless of mandates or what is easiest for you.

Thank you for understanding that students who do not feel safe and valued cannot learn, and therefore our students’ emotional needs are as relevant as their academic needs.

Thank you for remembering that every student sitting in our classroom has a unique and varied background and family situation, and that each one deserves to be acknowledged and honored.

Thank you for celebrating those tiny successes, that are truly monumental for some of our struggling students.

The work you do matters tremendously. Thank you so much for all you do!
